Key Points From This Episode:

  • We must make an important distinction: It is not transactional, its relational.  Prayer isn’t magic.  We can’t manipulate God.  To try to do so is to misunderstand the very nature of prayer.
  • We pray not to get what we want, but to draw close to God and humbly submit our requests to Him.
  • We pray because Scripture commands it.  “Pray without ceasing.”
  • We pray because when we do so, we are following the model Jesus gave.  Jesus often prayed.
  • We pray because when we intercede for the lost, when we pray according to God’s will, we align ourselves with Him and we release on earth what God has already done in Heaven.
  • Faith play a key role in attracting the presence and power of God and the release of answers.  Its clearly written in scripture.
But not every unanswered prayer is because we lack faith.  There are many other reasons why prayers go unanswered.
  • Faith must be developed.  We do this memorize scripture and pray them out (faith comes by hearing the word of God), meditating on God’s goodnessIt’s not on what he hasn’t done, but what he has
  • Praise and thanksgiving also builds up our faith
  • Fasting is a declaration of dependence on God and an important spiritual practice in the life of a disciple.
  • Fasting breaks spiritual strongholds (Matt 17:21)
  • Some principles about Fasting:
    • Start small (Atomic habits), then slowly add to it
    • Don’t be legalistic or hard on yourself as you grow in this (there is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus)
    • Make it part of your rhthym and a spiritual practice that becomes normal
    • Corporate fasting can help us – do it with others
    • Don’t make a big deal of it  or talk about it a lot, act normal
