Summary:
The term “extraordinary prayer” is often used by those who train and teach about disciple multiplication. What does it actually mean? And what are some examples of it? In this episode, Cynthia unpacks this term and shares tips on how to get started to become a person of extraordinary prayer.
Key Points From This Episode:
- This term was first used by Jonathan Edwards, but in the realm of DMMs and CPMs is attributed to David Garrison and his Church Planting Movements booklet published in 1999.
- Many other authors and trainers have emphasized it; Chris Galanos, David Watson, Alan Hirsch and even me…Cynthia Anderson in my book The Multiplier’s Mindset!
- It is extra-ordinary. Beyond normal prayer. Beyond what would be expected as the norm of most Christians and even of Christian leaders.
- It involves the prioritization of prayer over meetings, administration and other events. Extraordinary prayer sees prayer as important work and a top priority.
- It has to do with both your personal prayer life and also corporate prayer (with others)
- Extraordinary prayer involves an intentional increasing of prayer activities like prayer walking, chain prayer, all-night prayer, etc.
- Almost everyone who is doing extraordinary prayer also includes fasting both as part of their normal rhythms and the calling of special fasts.
- The focus of this kind of extraordinary prayer is on the lost and broken, not on ourselves.
- Start small but aim at an extraordinary, beyond the normal prayer life and effort.
