104: Shifting from Knowledge to Action in Discipleship

LISTEN TO THE EPISODE ABOVE

Summary:

The Age of Enlightenment has led to a high value being placed on knowledge particularly in Western society. This is part of why in the West, discipleship has been focused on imparting information more than on transformation. Today on the podcast Cynthia talks about the importance of a shift from knowledge to action as we make disciples of Jesus.

Key Points From This Episode:

  • Western society has elevated the pursuit of knowledge. (Age of Enlightenment)
  • This model has failed to lead to deep spiritual transformation or disciple-making
  • Jesus imparted knowledge but he always called his disciples to take actions of obedience and faith
  • It is our actions of faith that lead to the transformation of the heart and eventually the mind
  • Our experiences deeply influence our beliefs
  • The importance of obedience based vs knowledge-based discipleship if we want to see multiplication, not just addition growth
  • Friendly accountability needs to return to our discipleship models. Where we end with action steps that we hold ourselves and others accountable to.
