I’m always on the lookout for simple, effective tools to share the good news of Jesus. On a recent trip to a South-east Asian country, I heard about an effective illustration that is being used to lead many to Christ, especially young people. It’s worth sharing so I thought I’d have someone illustrate it for you and send this out as this week’s blog.
Here’s a transcript of this simple tool for sharing the gospel (in case that is helpful as well.)
Speaker 1: Hi.
Speaker 2: Hey.
Speaker 1: Hi. Nice to meet you.
Speaker 2: Nice to meet you.
Speaker 1 (And then we’ll be talking and then after that it’s like), oh, Terance, I have a question.
So let’s say, suppose you will die today.
Do you know for sure that you’ll be with God in heaven?
Speaker 2: No. I’m not sure.
Speaker 1: OK, then that’s very interesting because let’s say, imagine, right, suppose you die today and then you get to stand at heaven, heaven’s gate.
And then God is looking at you and saying, Terance, you know, (that’s, that’s your chance to, you know, kind of negotiate.)
It’s like Terance, why should I let you into my heaven?
What would you say?
Speaker 2: I’m a good person? Yeah.
Speaker 1: Maybe you’re good enough, but you’re not sure.
It’s like a 50-50 kind of thing.
Speaker 2: I’m a Good person.
Speaker 1: You’re a good person. You know, I have good news for you. So, you know heaven, eternal life is freely for God, right? But none of us can get it. So let me show you something.
Can you give me your hand?
So imagine. So this is you, right? So this is eternal life.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So heaven. So God actually wants to give you heaven and for free.
That is the good news. He wants to give it to you.
But because you and I were human and you know, we sin, right?
So what actually is blocking us?
Speaker 2: It’s sin.
Speaker 1: So imagine this phone, it records everything like whatever we did, like the good, the bad.
So it’s not perfect, but God, you know, this is the very thing that is blocking us from receiving this people to my wife.
And so God, he is a merciful God and he doesn’t want to punish us because the penalty of sin is there.
So the only way to solve this is to die, right?
This needs to be solved. And so God, He cannot give you eternal life.
And so what happens is He is just and He has to punish sin.
But God is merciful and He doesn’t want to punch us because He loves us. So this dilemma, that’s what happens. And so God came and became man.
But you and I in the man of Jesus Christ, what He came to do, just for one thing, He came to take away all our sins and then died. Then, He rose again.
Tell everyone you know this, I’m done, it’s done, we can go to heaven! And then after that He went to heaven and prepared place for us.
So my question to you right now is anything blocking you from receiving this forgiveness?
Do you want to receive the free of eternal life?
Speaker 2: Yes, I do!
Try This Simple Tool for Sharing the Gospel Today
Simple right? Why not give it a try?
Practice with a friend first, using your cell phone. Adapt it as you see helpful, but keep it simple. This is the basic idea. After you practice, go out and try using it for real with someone today!
Do you have a different tool you love to use for evangelism and sharing the good news? We’d love to hear about it! Share about it in the comments, or send us a video of you illustrating it. Remember to keep it simple, short, and easy for anyone to learn and use. In other words, it needs to be reproducible so it can multiply.
Feel free to also post in the DMMs Frontier Missions Facebook group and share your video there as well.
